Women's Basketball Wins Big on the Road

St. Louis, Mo. – The William Woods University women's basketball team earned their second straight American Midwest Conference (AMC) road win with an 88-61 win over Harris-Stowe State University. 

The Owls improve to 8-16 overall and 6-11 in the AMC. WWU has now won a season-best three straight games.
 
 

44 - Natalie Thomas (24) and Sydney Booker (20) combined for 44 points of the Owls.
14 - Jersee Wren and Katie Keilholz chipped in with 14 points each. 
15 - The Owls dished out 15 assists, the most in a game since Dec. 3, 2022
30-33 - William Woods connected on 30 of 33 free throws, which is a season high for free throws made and free throws attempted. 
6 - WWU connected on six triples in 11 attempts
2 - William Woods had two players record a double-double - Thomas (24 points, 10 rebounds) and Booker (20 points, 12 rebounds)
37-22 - The Owls won the rebound battle by grabbing 15 more than the Hornets
2020 – This marks the first road win against Harris-Stowe since February 13, 2020
 
 

Jersee Wren got the Owls started with five quick points, including a three pointer to give WWU the early 5-0 lead. The Hornets would storm back with an 8-0 run, however the Owls tallied nine of the final 13 points of the quarter to take a 14-12 lead. 

The second period was all William Woods. The Owls increased their lead to 16 after a 15-0 run in the middle of the period. HSSU did not go away and they cut their deficit down to eight (41-33) at the half. 

The WWU lead never got lower than six points in the third quarter. The Owls closed the quarter on a 15-3 run, holding Harris-Stowe to just one point in the final 2:13. 

WWU continued to play well as their lead reached the 30-point plateau after a layup from Natalie Thomas. The Owls lead reached as many as 33 (86-55) after an old fashioned three-point play from Sydney Booker
 
 

The Owls host AMC-rival Columbia College on Saturday, Feb. 11. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
