Owls Sweep HLG Series

FULTON, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team swept Hannibal-LaGrange in the three-game series. The Owls recorded 40 hits on the series with a combined 35 runs to improve to 21-10 on the season with an 8-1 conference mark.
 
Game One – 14-0 (7 inn.)
Game Two – 8-1
Game Three – 13-3 (8 inn.)
 
 
 

The Owls host College of the Ozarks (Mo.) for a mid-week game on Tuesday, Apr. 4, at 2 p.m.


 
  • The Owls put up 14 runs to short-game the Trojans, including nine runs in the fifth inning. They scored one in the second and four in the fourth.
  • The Owls had 15 hits total with five players connecting multiple times at the plate.
  • The Owls had five extra base hits including two home runs from Isaiah Gibbs in the fifth inning.
  • Ian O'Malley, Isaiah Gibbs and Jack Niggemeier each recorded three RBI.
  • Pitching: Ryan Long (4-1) pitched the 6.0 innings and was credited with the win. He struck out five and allowed no runs. Karter Andersen pitched the final inning and struck out one.

  • The Owls put up seven of their eight runs in the sixth inning.
  • HLG plated the first run of the game in the top of the fifth.
  • The Owls immediately evened the score in the bottom of the inning.
  • Ian O'Malley and Kamron Morriss each recorded two hits. O'Malley had the only extra base hit for the Owls with a double in the fifth inning to plate the game-tying run.
  • AJ Willenburg and Zach Krause each recorded two RBI.
  • Pitching: Wyatt Fischer (2-0) came in as relief and pitched 1.0 innings for the win. Brock Glavey started on the mound and pitched 5.0 innings with five strikeouts and three hits. Tyler Abney closed out the game with one strikeout and four batters faced.

  • The Owls ended the game early with a RBI single from AJ Willenburg to score Taylor Hopkins in the eighth inning. 
  • HLG scored the first two runs of the game in the fourth inning.
  • The Owls evened the score on a two-RBI sacrifice fly from Ian O'Malley in the bottom of the inning and took the lead on AJ Willenburg's RBI single. A Jack Niggemeier RBI single added a fourth run to the board.
  • The Owls added seven more in the fifth and one in the sixth.
  • HLG forced the Owls to hit in the seventh and eighth as they plated a run in the top of the inning to bring the game back to single digits. 
  • The Owls finished with 14 hits including three triples from Alex Wimer, Ian O'Malley and Taylor Hopkins
  • Four players recorded multiple hits. AJ Willenburg led the game with three hits, three RBI and two runs scored.
  • The Owls recorded seven stolen bases in the game with three coming from AJ Willenburg. 
  • Pitching: Andrew Fyffe (3-2) came in as relief and grabbed the win. He pitched 1.2 innings and struck out two. Jared Stephens started on the mound and pitched 4.1 innings with four strikeouts. Dylan McLone pitched 1.0 innings and Logan Blumhagen pitched the final inning and struck out three of the five batters faced.
