ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The William Woods University baseball team saw their 2023 season comes to a close with a 5-2 loss to Lyon College in the elimination game of the American Midwest Conference Championship Wednesday. The Owls finish their season with a 28-20 overall mark.

- The Owls scored their only two runs in the eighth inning on a two-run shot by Matt Hanson.
- The Owls had bases loaded with the go-ahead run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth with two outs but could not convert.
- The Owls did not record their first hit until the eighth inning. They put up three in that inning on Blain Tuepker's single, Matt Hanson's home run and Kamron Morriss' single.
- The Owls added three more hits in the bottom of the ninth to load the bases – Tyler Horton, Ian O'Malley and Isaiah Gibbs hit back-to-back-to-back singles.
- Brock Glavey (2-3) started on the mound and pitched 6.1 innings with four strikeouts. He was credited with the loss.
- Kaleb Haley came in as relief and finished the 2.2 innings with three strikeouts and just one hit.
