FULTON, Mo. - (RV) William Woods University (9-2-5, 5-0-1 AMC) shut out its sixth straight American Midwest Conference opponent in as many AMC matches this season, beating the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy in St. Louis (1-12, 1-5) 6-0 Saturday at North Campus Athletic Complex. The night-capping match was the second of two wins for Owls athletics in their Homecoming tripleheader of football, women's and men's soccer.
Like the Mission University matchup Tuesday, William Woods dictated the tempo of the game and controlled the attack: The Owls outshot the Eutectics 18-2 in the first half and 12-5 in the second half, 30 (17 on goal) to seven (three on goal) overall.
William Woods didn't have the most liveliest of first halves, but even so, it still netted two goals.
Charlie Williams scored his first goal in AMC play this season (fifth goal overall), 15:44 into the contest, which proved to be the game-winning goal.
Ten minutes later,
David Fink extended his team-high goals total to eight, finding the back of the next unassisted to send the Owls into halftime with a 2-0 lead. The Homecoming crowd were treated to an offensive clinic by WWU in the second half.
"Sluggish first half was made by a better second half," William Woods men's soccer coach
Tommy Nienhaus said. "Subs were fantastic today. Once again, we have so many different scorers really shows our depth. Another shutout is always nice. We keep going!"
Just under four minutes into the second half,
Lubos Polacko slotted his shot into the goal off a
Britton Purewal assist to make it 3-0 Owls. Fellow senior
Omar Murillo got on the scoresheet three minutes after that, taking a
Moritz Schafer pass before scoring.
Benjamin Lachaize finished off his two-goal week, extending William Woods' advantage to 5-0 3:20 after the Owls' previous goal. Freshman
Mattia Di Sabatino, from Teramo, Italy, scored his first college goal with 11:03 to go in the contest to finish off WWU's 6-0 win.
Owls shot-stopper
Wil Rieves (2-1-1), who played between the posts for the second half, recorded all three of WWU's saves in as many attempts. Eutectics goalkeeper Wyatt Taylor played all 90 minutes and made 10 saves in 16 tries.
William Woods committed 13 fouls and had no cards, and UHSP had 12 fouls and one yellow card in the 62nd minute.
The Owls wrap up their three-game homestand, facing rival Missouri Baptist University (9-5-2, 4-0-2 AMC) at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
