ST. LOUIS - William Woods University's
Sydney Booker was rewarded for her defensive effort with her second American Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Hannibal-LaGrange University's Ivy Lesley (offensive player of the week) was paired with Booker as the AMC's women's basketball players of the week for Week 7 (Dec. 2-8), announced the AMC Monday.
A committee of athletic communications professionals selected the weekly award winners throughout the conference from a pool of nominees submitted by each school.
Booker led the Owls to two AMC wins on the week over the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy in St. Louis, 75-72 in overtime Thursday in St. Louis, and Harris-Stowe State University, 83-56 Saturday in Fulton. Of those two contests, Booker's performance against UHSP proved the most immense, pulling down a season-high 16 rebounds and adding one assist and two steals - and she sealed the OT triumph by going 3-4 from the free-throw line in the final minutes. Booker averaged 14.5 points for the week with a 42.9 field goal percentage.
