Calvo Larraz, WWU, Roll Over MBU On Senior Day

FULTON, Mo. - As the Owls celebrated the final home match for Marta Calvo Larraz, William Woods (8-6, 1-0) battled to a 5-1 win over Missouri Baptist (10-8, 3-1) on Friday. Calvo Larraz was the quick winner in both singles and doubles, needing just shy of an hour to pick up the 6-0, 6-2 win at the five line against Mia McIsaac and polishing off Camila Gomez and Luana Luersen 6-3 at the one doubles with partner Marta Lindeboom.

The quick win at the one doubles was unsurprising as Lindeboom and Calvo Larraz came into the match as the no. 7 ranked pairing in the NAIA, taking a 6-3 result over Camila Gomez and Luana Luersen.

Woods also made quick work of the overall doubles point with Lena Greefs and Marcelina Kotylak at the two and Kristina Dimitrijevic and Sophia Hausner at the three picking up matching 6-4 wins over the Spartan pairings of Mariana Azevedo/Teodora Iacob and McIsaac/Jocelynn Carmody respectively.

Missouri Baptist put up a bit more fight in the singles matches, with Gomez taking the the first set from no. 7-ranked women's singles player in the NAIA Lindeboom. After seeing Greefs pick up the first singles point for Woods with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Luersen at the two, Lindeboom rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win to put the Owls up 3-0.

The battles at the three and four lines were pitched affairs, with Carmody snagging a point for MBU with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Dimitrijevic at the three line. Mireira Simon Sanchez clinched the match for WWU with a 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-1 win over Katarina Vasiljkovic at the four.

With the match running long, Hausner's match against Azevedo at the six line was abandoned with Hausner leading 5-2 in the first set and dominating.

The Owls finish the regular season on the road, beginning with a Sunday doubleheader against McPherson College and Bethel College. First serve against the Bulldogs is set for 10 a.m.
