BOONVILLE, Mo. - Coming off a first-place team and individual finish at its home invite a week ago, William Woods University men's golf knew it needed to show it could do the same on another team's course. 

The Owls did just that in the two-round CMU Fall Invitational Monday and Tuesday at Hail Ridge Golf Course, with their 'A' team shooting a 13-under 555 (277, 278) to top the 12-team leaderboard and Spencer Worley signing for a 6-under 136 (70, 66) to place first in the 68-competitor field.

Proving how dominant Woods' overall performance was, it had the top five golfers and three teams. Worley was joined by his four 'A' squad teammates in the top five: Liam Toole took second with a 139 (70, 69), Jose Vidal (67, 74) and Jose Monge (70, 71) tied for third with a 141 and Brayden Buffington finished fifth with a 143 (71, 72). Following the Owls' 'A' team, their 'C' group placed second with a 587 (294, 293) and 'B' squad third with a 592 (298, 294).

In Round 1, Vidal posted the best score with a 4-under 67. He had four birdies (three on the front nine and one on the back nine) and an eagle on the par-5, 545-yard 14th hole.

Worley one-upped his teammate in Round 2, firing a 66, which tied Toole's first round at the WWU Fall Invitational - his first as an Owl -  on Sep. 16 for the best tally this season. However, Toole was 6-under at the par-72 Tanglewood Golf Course, compared to Worley's 5-under at the par-71 Hail Ridge. Even so, Worley has led the Owls in two of their three competitions this year and had seven birdies (four on the front nine and three on the back nine) Tuesday.

While Worley and Toole have been The Woods' top players on the leaderboard this year, other Owls have excelled as well. Highlighting that point, WWU had six below-par rounds from four different golfers at the CMU Fall Invitational.

After taking a break from competition next week, William Woods competes in the Virginia McCoy Invitational, hosted by Park University, from Oct. 7-8 at The National Golf Club of Kansas City in Parkville.
