MEMPHIS, Tenn.- William Woods (0-2) could not find a way to stifle the hot offense of Blue Mountain Christian (2-0), despite taking leads in both games.
The Owls opened the season tallying a run in the top of the first when Jacob McWhirter hit a sacrifice fly that scored 2024 AMC Freshman of the Year Kaden Kinsler. Blue Mountain was able to take the lead in the bottom half of the frame when the Toppers put up four runs. The BMCU offense would go on to put up another lone run in the second.
The Woods responded in the third inning putting up two runs in the frame to tally the score 3-5 in favor of the Toppers. The Blue Mountain offense put up five runs in the bottom half of the inning, never relinquishing the lead. William Woods would go on to score two runs in the fourth, and one run in each of the last three innings, leaving the score at 12-8.
Game two of the doubleheader saw the Owls jump out to an early lead when leadoff hitter Jackson Kirn barreled a ball over the outfield wall on an 0-1 count. The toppers were able to tie it at one run a piece in the bottom half of the frame. Blue Mountain hurler Benji Webb settled in and held the Owls off the board for the rest of the game, despite giving up five hits on the game.
