ST. LOUIS, Mo. – William Woods (15-7, 7-4 Heart) hit the road once again to take on a tough Missouri Baptist squad (18-5, 10-1 Heart), looking to bounce back after a hard-fought loss against Stephens College.
The opening set was controlled early by the Spartans until a timeout from head coach Aubrey Wilson sparked some life for the Owls. Coming out of the huddle, Woods responded with back-to-back kills from Luciana Pavia Pereira and Ivi Marcolino, forcing Missouri Baptist to take a timeout of their own. The Spartans, however, regained momentum and closed out the first set 25-20 to take a 1-0 match lead.
Missouri Baptist carried that momentum into the second set, jumping ahead 15-6 before the Owls began to chip away. Three kills from Pereira and several Spartan errors gave Woods a brief run, but the comeback fell short as the Spartans took the second set 25-18.
The Owls battled hard in the third, trading points with Missouri Baptist through much of the set. Despite their efforts, the Spartans once again found themselves in a tight situation late, winning 25-17 to complete the 3-0 sweep.
William Woods will look to regroup as they return home to host Columbia College on October 15th at 6 p.m. in their final non-conference match up of the season.
