FULTON, Mo – William Woods University (16-7) was back in Anderson as they hosted former conference foe Columbia College (9-12), looking to get back on the winning track.
Columbia came out firing on all cylinders in the opening set, jumping to an early lead and never looking back. Despite a solid effort from
Pamela Durazo, who tallied four kills, the Owls dropped the first set 25-14.
The second set saw a much different story. After another quick start by the Cougars, the Owls caught fire, going on a
12-1 run to regain control. Behind
Luciana Pavia Pereira's powerful left arm—recording eight kills in the frame—Woods evened the match with a 25-18 win.
Set three was a battle from the start, with both teams trading points before the Owls gained separation late.
Setter Erin Treis came up big with a pair of key blocks, while Durazo added four more kills to help Woods take the set 25-20 and grab a 2-1 match lead.
Carrying their momentum into the fourth, the Owls kept the pressure on Columbia. Luciana and Pamela combined for
11 kills in the final set, propelling Woods to a 25-17 victory and sealing the 3-1 match win.
William Woods (record) returns to action Friday night as they host
Peru State at 7 p.m. in Anderson Arena, looking to build on their winning momentum.
