FULTON, Mo – William Woods University (18-11, 9-8 Heart) hosted Park University (17-7, 13-4 Heart) on Friday evening for Staff/Faculty Appreciation Night, where seniors recognized their favorite faculty and staff members.
The first set would set the tone of the match as each team came out swinging, pacing each other early on. A few key errors from the Owls late in the set gave the Pirates the edge, as they claimed the first set 25-23 despite a late push that included four kills from
Roberta Carlos de Silva.
The second set mirrored the first, with neither team able to pull away. Luciana Pavia Pereira powered the Owls with 8 kills and kept Woods in the set. In a set that needed overtime, Luciana and
Lennon Adams would join on a key block to defeat the Pirates 28-26.
In the third, Park jumped ahead early and maintained a steady three-point lead throughout. Despite a strong effort from Carlos de Silva—who added three kills and three blocks—the Pirates held off the Owls to take the set 25-20.
Woods would continue to fight as the Pirates got up early again in the fourth set.
Pamela Durazo led the Owls with 5 kills, but it wouldn't be enough as Park would walk away with a 25-20 victory and a 3-1 match win.
William Woods returns to action tomorrow at
2:00 p.m. for their
Senior Day match-up against MidAmerica Nazarene University.
