Owls Split Weekend at Andy Carrier Memorial Classic

OTTAWA, Kan. – Men's basketball headed to Ottawa University to play in the Andy Carrier Memorial Basketball Classic as they played against host Ottawa University (3-2) on Friday and Friends University (3-1) on Saturday.

On day 1, William Woods (1-3) took care of business with Ottawa against a good Ottawa team. Woods would take an 11-point lead into the half and keep that lead for the rest of the game and find their first win of the season.

Mark Onyejekwe would lead the Owls in the scoring column with 21 points on 8 of 13 shooting from the field, with Tahki Chievous dropping 16 points for the Owls en route to an 84-68 win. Tahki and Brock Davis would clean up the glass with each recording 9 rebounds each, and DeMarco Buchanan added 8 rebounds as well.

On day 2, the Owls encountered trouble with Friends University, as they would hold Woods to only 28 first-half points, leaving the Owls with a 20-point deficit heading into halftime. Brock Davis would take charge for the Owls as he put up 18 points with 13 rebounds, with Brayden Wampler-Foust putting up 10 off the bench for the Owls.

Despite a second-half effort from the Owls to get back into the game, the early deficit was too much, and they fell to Friends 97-67, looking to regroup for their upcoming games this week.

William Woods will hit the road for Point Lookout, Missouri, to take on College of the Ozarks on Wednesday, with tip-off scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
