Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Wren Dials it up from Deep, Lifts Owls Past Mustangs

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - William Woods women's basketball (2-8, 2-5 Heart) used a decisive second-half surge to pull away from Mount Mercy (5-7, 2-4 Heart), securing a 73–67 conference win on the road.

After trailing by eight following the opening quarter, the Owls chipped away before halftime and then took control coming out of the break. William Woods outscored Mount Mercy 22–14 in the third quarter, flipping the game's momentum and carrying that advantage into the final frame.

Jersee Wren led all scorers with a game-high 30 points, shooting 11-of-25 from the floor and knocking down five three-pointers. Mya Pflasterer added 16 points on an efficient 5-of-7 shooting, including four made threes, while Layla Young chipped in 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Mariah Prince filled the stat sheet with 10 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals, anchoring William Woods on both ends of the floor.

As a team, the Owls shot 50 percent from beyond the arc (10-of-20) and went 13-of-16 at the free-throw line, capitalizing on key opportunities down the stretch. William Woods also forced 12 Mount Mercy turnovers, turning defense into timely offense.

Mount Mercy was led by Sydni Morris with 18 points and Candace Baker, who posted 12 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists, but the Mustangs were held to just 26 points in the second half as the Owls' defense tightened.

The Owls are back in action Monday night as they host Columbia College inside Anderson Arena.
