Box Score FULTON, Mo. - In its home opener, No. 20 William Woods University women's tennis (1-4) earned its first win of the season, sweeping Freed-Hardeman University (1-5) 7-0 Sunday at Suzanne Neal Memorial Tennis Complex.

Abigail Lemberger Hughes said. "The girls showed up and fought hard to get a 7-0 win. I'm excited to see how they compete next week on the road."
Starting the match bright and early at 10 a.m., the Owls took two of the three doubles matchups to pick up the doubles point. WWU's
Hanna Lindeboom and Mireira Simon Sanchez won 6-1 in the one slot. Then,
Kristina Dimitrijevic and
Sophia Hausner lost 6-2 to the Lions No. 2 pair. In the final doubles game to conclude, the Owls'
Zara Littlejohn and
Samya Sikand beat FHU's No. 3 duo 6-2.
Lindeboom, ranked 13 in the latest ITA NAIA women's tennis singles rankings, notched WWU's first singles victory, defeating the Lions' top singles player 6-2, 6-1 to double Woods' lead to 2-0. The four-line was the second singles matchup to end, with Sikand winning 6-1, 6-3. Keeping it up, the Owls took the four remaining singles matchups: Simon Sanchez 6-2, 6-3 at the two slot, Dimitrijevic 7-5, 0-6 (1-0) at the three, Chole Hecker 6-0, 6-1 at the six and Hausner 6-0, 6-0 at the five. Â
Next weekend, William Woods plays four in the TXWES Steve Foster Invitational, beginning with a top-20 match against No. 12 Louisiana State University Alexandria (0-2) at 4 p.m. Friday at Arlington Tennis Center in Arlington, Texas.
