Hanna Lindeboom and
Mireia Simon Sanchez won their doubles and singles matchups as the Owls fell 5-2 to NCAA Division II Maryville University (5-5) Friday at Suzanne Neal Memorial Tennis Complex.
The Saints took the first doubles matchup to finish as WWU's
Kristina Dimitrijevic and
Sophia Hausner lost 6-1 to Luana Luersen and Grace Brown at the two slot. Then, Lindeboom and Simon Sanchez, who made the ITA NAIA women's tennis doubles rankings for the first time at No. 22 Thursday, beat Maryville's Isabella Alvarez and Nazli Saka 6-1. However, the Saints secured the doubles point, with the Owls'
Zara Littlejohn and
Samya Sikand falling 7-5 at the three line.
Simon Sanchez tied the team score at 1, opening singles play with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Maryville's Lisson at the two spot. But, the Saints retook the lead when Sikand lost 6-0, 6-4 to Brown at the four slot. Tying it for the final time at 2-all, Lindeboom, ranked No. 35 in the ITA NAIA women's tennis singles rankings, won 7-5, 6-1 over Saka at the one line.
Following that, Maryville went in front for good after William Woods' Hausner lost 6-3, 6-0 to Luersen at the five spot. In the final two matchups to conclude, the Owls' Dimitrijevic dropped a 6-1, 6-7, 6-3 decision to Alvarez at the three slot and
Chloe Hecker fell 6-1, 6-3 to Velazquez at the six.
William Woods (2-0 Heart of America Athletic Conference) concludes its five-match homestand, hosting Heart foe Grand View University (1-10, 0-0 Heart) on Senior Night at 7 p.m. Saturday.
