CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Owls of William Woods University (10-4) went 3-1 in the Third Annual Campbellsville University Flag Football Frenzy, ending with back-to-back victories Saturday.
On Friday, WWU split its two contests, beating host Campbellsville (4-5) 7-6, the Owls' eighth straight victory, then they saw their winning streak snapped with a 19-6 defeat to Milligan University (10-2).
"Today was a good day," William Woods flag football coach
Charlie Holloway said. "Wouldn't say great, but still good. Winning our first game against Campbellville was a great way to get started. It was a really tight game, and the girls battled the entire game. Second game wasn't the outcome we wanted against Milligan, but a great learning lesson for us. We are three games into our new journey, and this game was just a speed bump in the road. I fully expect this group to bounce back tomorrow."
The Owls sure did bounce back, sweeping Saturday with a 12-6 triumph over Siena Heights University (7-6) before a 26-0 shutout win against NCAA Division III Rockford University (2-5).
"Today's games went how I expected them to go today," Holloway said. "This group of ladies showed everyone there how resilient they are after a loss. Game 1 against Siena Heights was a bit of a rough start, but defense picked up the offense, and we battled that game. Perk (
Olivia Perkins) had a huge interception near the end to seal the deal for us. Our second game, our offense finally got the wheels going and came out dominating from the start. I am so incredibly proud of this group and truly look forward to the coming weeks. The daily growth this team has shown speaks volumes, and it's getting noticed. In the words of Deion Sanders…'We comin'!'"
William Woods (5-3 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference) has just over a week's break before playing at KCAC foe University of Saint Mary (3-4, 1-4 KCAC) at 6 p.m. April 9.
