Box Score ARLINGTON, Texas -
Hanna Lindeboom and
Mireia Simon Sanchez won their doubles matchup in No. 20 William Woods University's (1-5) 7-0 loss to No. 12 Louisiana State University of Alexandria (3-2) in the TXWES Steve Foster Invitational Friday at Arlington Tennis Center.
"Even though the score line doesn't reflect it, the girls had a good match and fought throughout," William Woods tennis coach
Abigail Lemberger Hughes said. "They started the doubles strong, and the scores show that, with all three of our doubles matches going to tiebreaks. It was tough to come out of doubles without the point. I think if the girls can start the next matches with the same energy and carry it into singles, we have a good shot of securing some wins."
Getting the Owls off to a winning start, Lindeboom and Simon Sanchez took the first doubles matchup to finish, beating the Generals' Nahia Gonzalez Echaide and Joline Roesch 7-6 at the top position. Then, LSU Alexandria won the two remaining doubles contests to pick up the doubles point: WWU's
Kristina Dimitrijevic and
Sophia Hausner lost 7-6 to the Generals' Kanupriya Rajawat and Gianna Panaggio at the two before LSU Alexandria's Belen Blasco and Isabella Stuurman notched the team doubles point as WWU's
Zara Littlejohn and
Samya Sikand fell 7-6.
In singles, the Owls' Lindeboom, ranked 13th in the latest ITA NAIA singles rankings, lost 3-6, 6-3 (1-0) to the Generals' Gonzalez Echaide at the one slot. Lindeboom's doubles partner Simon Sanchez dropped a 6-0, 6-4 decision to Rajawat at the two. LSU Alexandria earned the team victory after Dimitrijevic fell 6-2, 6-2 to Blasco at the three. Completing the singles sweep for the Generals, the Owls' Sikand lost 6-4, 6-1 to Stuurman at the four, Hausner dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to Panaggio at the five and
Chloe Hecker fell 6-2, 6-2 to Roesch at the six.
