O'FALLON, Mo.- In a season that was filled with trials and tribulations, William Woods (29-22, 10-16 AMC) closed the book on the 2025 season with a 13-6 loss to Central Baptist College (29-23, 23-13 AMC) on Thursday afternoon. Throughout the season the Owls competed to a near 30-win mark and the highlight of earning Coach Cavness his 100th career win at the helm.
The Owls were first on the board in this elimination game at Carshield Field, tallying a lone run in the first on a solo shot from centerfielder Kaden Kinsler. However, the Mustangs scored nine runs in the first three innings of the contest to set Woods down by eight runs.
Standout sophomore Colby Caton is responsible for driving home the next two runs on a single up the middle with runners at second and third. Ryan Retone and Vincent Pyeatt, who was in the game to run for catcher Justin Dameron, came around to score on the base-knock. The Mustangs were able to respond with two runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth inning to increase their lead to ten runs.
William Woods was able to score one run in the sixth inning on another solo-blast from AMC First-Team member Kaden Kinsler. The Owls cut the lead to eight runs when a feint from the mound brought home Cam Casso on a balk in the eighth inning.
Facing an eight-run deficit in the ninth inning, Woods was able to scratch one more run in the contest. Again, Kinsler barreled a fastball down the line in right field for his third solo-home run of the game. The Owls were able to earn two more base runners in the inning but were unable to bring them home against the CBC closer.
The Owls end their season with a 29-22 record, winning 20 games inside the American Midwest Conference. Woods will make a full transition to The Heart of America Athletic Conference for the 2025-2026 academic year.
