Fulton, Mo. – William Woods University Men's Soccer (2-3-3, 0-2-3 HAAC) hosted former American Midwest Conference opponent Missouri Baptist University (2-3-3, 1-1-2 HAAC) in their first meeting in the Heart of America Athletic Conference on Wednesday night at the North Campus Athletic Complex in Fulton.
The Owls opened the scoring midway through the first half when Ben Lachaize netted his second goal of the season in the 26th minute on a combination assist from Charlie Williams and team captain Josh Seyer. Missouri Baptist responded just before halftime, as forward Anthony Coppotelli found the back of the net in the 40th minute to level the score. Woods' keeper Matt Dworak hauled in six saves in the first 45 minutes to carry the 1-1 scoreline into the half.
Both sides saw opportunities in the second half, with shots from several Owls that were deflected by the Spartan netminder, including a shot by Moritz Schafer that almost broke the tie but was smothered by MBU keeper Sean Stone. Dworak and the Owls' backline stifled several attempts from Missouri Baptist in the half, with Dworak reeling in four more saves to bring his total to ten. On the other side of the field, Missouri Baptist goalkeeper Sean Stone brought in two saves in the game on nine shots from Woods, three of which were on goal.
When the final horn sounded, neither team came out on top in a 1-1 stalemate that leaves William Woods hunting for their first conference win.
Woods hosts Graceland University on Saturday at the NCAC. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
