Box Score FULTON, Mo. — William Woods volleyball (2-9, 1-8) fell to Clarke (7-12, 3-6) 3-1 Saturday at Anderson Arena.
The Owls opened the match strong, taking the first set 25-22. William Woods built a 13-8 advantage early in the set and maintained its lead through the closing points.
Clarke responded in the second set, overcoming a 7-4 deficit as the Owls held a 12-10 lead midway through the set. The Pride then took control and closed out the set 25-22 to even the match.
The third set remained competitive throughout. Clarke opened with a 5-2 lead before William Woods rallied to tie the set at 5-5. The Owls later erased a three-point deficit to tie the set at 9-9 and eventually took a 13-12 lead. After Clarke regained the advantage, William Woods battled back again, tying the set at 16-16 and taking an 18-16 lead. Clarke answered and eventually reached set point at 24-23, but the Owls forced another tie at 25-25 before Clarke secured the final two points for a 27-25 victory.
Clarke carried the momentum into the fourth set, building a 15-8 lead. William Woods continued to battle, cutting the deficit to 18-15 and later mounting a 5-0 run to pull within 23-22. The Pride stopped the comeback attempt, however, taking the final two points to win the set 25-22 and the match 3-1.
Roberta Carlos de Silva led the Owls with 14 kills and 18 digs. Ryleigh Sander recorded 28 assists and 12 digs, while Isabella Ruether finished with 10 kills and five blocks. Lennon Adams added seven kills and six blocks, and Mariana Casotti contributed five kills while hitting .364.
William Woods finished with 56 kills and 91 digs as a team. The Owls also recorded seven total blocks.
Clarke finished with 55 kills and 13 total blocks.
William Woods returns to action at No. 10 Missouri Baptist on Tuesday, October 6.
