McPHERSON, Kan.- William Woods women's tennis closed out their spring break trip with a loss to the Bulldogs of McPherson College on Tuesday afternoon. The Owls, who fell behind early, battled back to lose 4-3 against the (RV) Bulldogs.
William Woods lost the doubles point, as they dropped both teh #1 and #2 matchups. In #3 doubles Bieke Roovers and Chloe Hecker blanked their opponent to take a 6-0 win, but lose the doubles point to McPherson.
Woods looked to battle back in singles play as #1 player Kristina Dimitrijevic bested her opponent to level the match score at 1-1. Samya Sikand and Hecker dropped their matchups in the #2 and #3 singles slot to grow the Bulldog lead to 3-1. William Woods etched back into the game with a huge win from #5 singles player Zara Littlejohn who defeated her opponent in straight sets. Manon Grasset in the #4 singles was the next to finish, leveling the scoreline at 3-3 with a comeback win over Laureen Van Drunen.
Leaving freshman Elise Vandewiele to square off against Eva Lesteluhu for the match point. Lesteluhu took a commanding 6-0 win in set one. Vandewiele, who has already played in some big matches in her young career, took the McPherson #6 to the limit in set two; falling short 6-0, 7-6 in the match.
