FULTON, Mo. - Men's Lacrosse returned home from their weekend trip to Memphis with their second match at the North Campus Athletic Complex on the campus of William Woods against the Saints of Aquinas College. As the current #3 team in the country, the Saints were too much of a challenge for the Owls, defeating WWU 24-7.
Although Aquinas struck first, William Woods had the contest tied at 1-1 over six minutes into the match. It was
Jack Brackin's dart from 15 yards out that put the Owls on the board, tying the match in its early stages. However, the Saints slowly began to pull away, gaining a 5-1 lead into the second quarter. Sophomore
Connor White worked to keep the game close, scoring off the swing from
Collis Rhodes. Rhodes proceeded to find the back of the goal himself, this time by way of an
Xavier Dockery pass. While the Woods remained within striking distance for a few minutes, a scoring flurry from AC to end the half swiftly created a steep 12-3 margin heading into the break.
The second half proved to be much of the same as Aquinas continued to pile on their lead. As for the scoring plays for the Owls,
Ethan NewMyer worked his magic late into the third quarter for an unassisted goal. Shortly after,
Kyle Fischer took the ball the length of the field with the long stick before sneaking a shot past the goalie for his first career score. Late into the fourth, NewMyer netted his second shot thanks to a
Drew Hannam pass. The final score of the contest was an isolation masterclass by freshman
Jerry Swenson, the first goal of his young career.
Freshman
Zach Hearn saw his first complete game in goal for William Woods, saving 15 shots.
Men's Lacrosse is back in action tomorrow against Siena Heights University at noon.
