NORTH NEWTON, Kan.- The nationally ranked William Woods University women's tennis team fell 5-2 versus (RV) Bethel College on Monday afternoon.
The Owls lost the doubles point after falling 6-1 in #1 doubles and 6-3 in #2 doubles. Bieke Roovers and Chloe Hecker were able to scratch a win in #3 doubles, not counting towards the match win as #1 and #2 had already clinched the point for the Threshers.
The Owls won only two singles matchups with Manon Grasset and Zara Littlejohn taking wins in #4 and #5 singles respectively. Grasset and Littlejohn both played the minimum, besting their opponents in consecutive sets. The Woods' #1, #2, #3 singles players all went down in order, not winning a single set. Elise Vandewiele took her opponent into the decisive third set, before falling short 7-6 on the tiebreak. Threshers win the matchup 5-2, for their first victory over the Owl all-time.
The Owls return for the last leg of their spring break trip Tuesday morning as they take on the McPherson College Bulldogs.
