Woods Battle For Series Split Against Central Methodist

FAYETTE, Mo. – William Woods (20-17, 11-9 Heart) traveled to Central Methodist University (23-16, 12-8 Heart) to finish their conference series from the weekend, where each team entered a one-win-a-piece.

Colby Caton got the Owls going early with a base hit up the middle to score Jude Gremillion to give the Owls a quick 1-0 lead. Aidan Gaither would add to that lead at the top of the second with a solo homerun to increase the lead to 2-0.

Owls kept the momentum in their favor as they continued to score at the top of the third with an error from the Eagles' defense and a double from Caton to grow the Owls' lead to 4-0.
The Eagles' offense would fight back in the fourth with a homerun and a single down the line, which would even the score up at four apiece to make it a brand-new ball game. CMU would keep tacking on in the bottom of the fifth with 3 runs to give them a commanding 7-4 lead over the Owls.

Owls would not go quietly as the Eagles would gift the Woods with a run at the top of the sixth to inch them closer to the lead of the Eagles. Caton would get the game within one with a solo homer to tie it at 7-6, but that would be where the game would end.

Despite their last-ditch effort, the Owls would drop game one to the Eagles 7-6 and look to bounce back in the final game, where they would.

Brayden Groseclose took the ball in game two and turned in a quality start with a complete game while working around six hits and three runs with 3 strikeouts en route to his third win of the year.

An error from the Eagles would tie the game up for the Owls at the top of the second and would blow open the game at the top of the third. A Cam Casso double would get the rally started for the Owls, scoring Gremillion, and a wild pitch would bring Casso in later in the inning.

To cap off the third innings, a pinch-hit bomb from Jared Bendfield would tally 3 runs for the Owls as they would extend their lead to a commanding 6-1 lead over the Eagles.

Groseclose would keep cruising as the Eagles would tack on two runs on the remainder of the game, but could not get anything going against the right-hander hurler for the Owls.

Woods would walk away with a series split, as they have set themselves up in a great spot as they head to the Missouri Valley next weekend for their home stretch of conference games.
