COLUMBIA, Mo. – William Woods (24-18) traveled to battle high school to make up their earlier-in-the-season game with Columbia College (28-11-1), with one nine-inning game that the Owls would drop, 11-6.
The cougars got the scoring going early, scoring six runs in the bottom of the sixth to go up big on the Owls. Columbia would keep tacking on later in the game as their offense got going again in the bottom of the fifth with four more runs to go up 10-0 over the Owls.
Owls would start cutting into the lead of the cougars at the top of the fifth as Kinsler would double down the line to score Casso, and would later come around to score from a
Carson Shettlesworth single down the left field line to cut into the cougar lead.
Owls would keep chomping into the lead at the top of the sixth inning, with a Jared Bendfield pinch hit, which would end in a double down the left field line to score Kirn. Two wild pitches would also help out the owls, scoring two, followed by a single from
Cam Casso to cap off a four-run inning for the Owls.
Down 10-6, the cougars would tack on one more, and the bullpen for each side would shut down the offenses for the rest of the game.
Alex Wolf-Gallegos would toss 2.2 innings out of the pen while striking out 5 in the process to keep the Owls within striking distance.
Despite their mid-game offensive jolt, the Owls would fall to the Cougars 11-6.
Owls will switch their mindset to Thursday as they host the Spartans of Missouri Baptist at Owl's Field for their final Heart of America series of the year.
