MOBILE, Ala.- After a stellar run in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament Championship that saw the Owls eclipse their tenth consecutive conference title, Woods fell short in the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament.
Facing familiar foe, Marian University (Ind.), who the Owls have the all-time series against 2-1, William Woods was blanked in the 4-0 throttling. In doubles play, Woods lost #3 doubles and #1 doubles to surrender the tightly contested doubles points.
In singles play, the Knights continued to pour it on as they took three consecutive singles matches to cement the 4-0 win. The only matches to go unfinished in singles play were #4, #2 and #1.
The Owls end a season that saw them defeat a National Tournament favorite in Morningside University but lose to teams that they had never lost to before. Woods battled adversity throughout the season and eventually earned their tenth consecutive conference title after back-to-back upsets of Texas Wesleyan and Missouri Baptist in the Conference Championship Tournament. They will look to bounce back in 2026-27 as they attempt to make it back into the NAIA Coach's Poll Top 25, a moniker that they only lost this season after a decade of consistency.
