Owls Drop AMC Match

The William Woods University women's soccer team dropped an American Midwest Conference match on Saturday afternoon.  The Owls lost 2-1 at Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis, Mo.
 
The AMC match was scoreless at the half.  William Woods found the back of the net early in the second half.  The Owls took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Anna Hatfield (Desoto, Ill.).  Hatfield scored in the 53rd minute to give the Owls the lead.  It was the first goal of the season for Hatfield.
 
Missouri Baptist answered with two unanswered goals.  Courtney Young scored in the 62nd and 80th minute to secure the conference win for the Spartans.
 
The Owls outshot the Spartans 21-19.  Each team put 10 shots on goal.  Kelly Abernathy (St. Charles, Mo.) had eight saves for the Owls in goal.
 
WWU falls to 5-2 in the AMC and 6-5-1 overall.  MBU improves to 3-1 league play and 4-7 on the season.
 
William Woods returns to action October 10 at McKendree University.  Kick-off is scheduled for 6 pm in Lebanon, Ill.
