Owls Survive Second-Half Scare, Avenge Early Season Loss With 75-69 Win Over Lindenwood-Belleville

Fulton, Mo. -- Andrew Miller (Whangamata, New Zealand) finished just shy of a double-double with 15 pts and nine rebounds as he sparked the William Woods University men's basketball team out of a second-half funk en route to a 75-69 win over USCAA no. 5-ranked Lindenwood University-Belleville on Friday night.

The Owls never trailed in the first half, holding off an early surge from the Lynx and stretching out to a 34-23 halftime lead.

Coming out of the break, Lindenwood-Belleville rattled off eight straight points - six coming from Devon Weaver - to cut the lead to three, but Miller and the Owls were able to respond and push the margin back to 43-35 with 14:02 left.

A furious 19-6 run that saw WWU hit only one of six attempts from the floor put Lindenwood-Belleville in front 49-54 with under 10 minutes to play, but Miller responded for the Owls to snatch the lead back.

The senior opened an 11-4 run with an easy bucket in the lane, came up with a huge block that led to a fast break layup for Logan Decker (Kansas City, Mo.) with 7:11 to go and capped the run with a trey at the 5:14 mark.

Lindenwood-Belleville tried to mount a comeback, but lost the momentum with a pivotal timeout call with 46 seconds on the clock. The Lynx's coach called a timeout as a player was shooting a three-pointer - which was waved off - and Lindenwood-Belleville could only muster 1-of-2 from the free throw line on the following possession.

WWU moved to 6-4 on the season and will take on no. 5-ranked Martin Methodist College in the final game of the Arris' Pizza and Pub College Basketball Classic. The game is third on the Saturday slate, and is set for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
