Owls Complete AMC Sweep

(FULTON, Mo., April 18)--The William Woods University baseball team swept an American Midwest Conference doubleheader from visiting McKendree University Monday afternoon. The Owls won 4-3 and 8-0. WWU swept all four games from the Bearcats for the first time in WWU baseball history.

The Owls and Bearcats went to the bottom of the seventh inning tied at three in game one of the doubleheader. Senior Stephen Thoenen (Mexico, Mo.) delivered a game-winning RBI single scoring Andrew Pointer (Taos, Mo.) to take game one.

WWU scored four runs on 12 hits in the win. McKendree scored three runs on three hits and committed one error.

Alex Cann (San Diego, Calif.) earned the win in relief. Cann (3-0) worked one inning, allowed one hit and walked one.

Thoenen went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the win. Brady Farrington (Richland, Wash.) went 2-for-3 for the Owls. Derek McCawley (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Zach Woody (California, Mo.) each had two hits. Woody and Adam Wojciechowski (St. Louis, Mo.) each recorded an RBI.

The Owls scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning in game two. They added five more in the third inning. Jon Hecht (Frohna, Mo.) earned the win for the Owls. Hecht (3-0) worked six innings, allowed five hits, walked one and struck out seven.

Blake Wilson (Cairo, Mo.) and L.J. Watson (O'Fallon, Ill.) each had two RBI's in the win. Jacob Harrison (Fulton, Mo.) went 2-for-2 with an RBI for the Owls. McCawley added two doubles and an RBI in the winning effort.

WWU (28-13, 15-5) scored eight runs on eight hits. McKendree (19-27, 9-11) had five hits and three errors in the loss.

The Owls return to action Tuesday. They travel to Central Methodist University for a 3 pm doubleheader.
