The William Woods University women's soccer team played to a 1-1 double overtime tie with Culver-Stockton College Thursday night on Firley Field. WWU is now 2-1-1 on the season.
The Wildcats (0-2-1) scored with 47 seconds remaining in the opening half to take a 1-0 lead. Kelseigh Ruths scored for C-SC to give the Wildcats a one-goal advantage heading into halftime.
Mariah Wheaton (independence, Mo.) fired a shot off the cross bar in the 78th minute of play for William Woods.
Amy Faus (Waterloo, Ill.) took the ricochet from the left wing and rifled a shot past the C-SC goalie to even the match at one. It was the first goal of the season for Faus.
Neither team could find the back of the net again in regulation. William Woods had back-to-back scoring opportunities in the first overtime.
Kelsey Sanders (Jefferson City, Mo.) had a shot deflected in front of the left post in the 97th minute. The ensuing corner kick from

Stephanie Kirvan (Sunrise Beach, Mo.) on the far post. Kirvan headed the ball and C-SC goalie Jacqui Porter made the save while crashing into the post. The Owls controlled the momentum throughout the overtime period but were unable to find the winning shot.
Sanders had the only shot attempt for either team in the second overtime period. Her shot sailed wide and the two teams ended the night with a 1-1 tie.
WWU took 15 shots on the evening. They placed four shots on goal. C-SC took 12 shots on the night. They were only able to put two shots on goal.
Anna Hatfield (Desoto, Ill.) played all 110 minutes in goal for the Owls. Although recording only one save, she took away several shot opportunities from the Wildcats with her aggressive play in goal.
The Owls return to action on September 10. WWU will host Missouri Valley College at 1 pm on Firley Field.
