Owls Host Final Home Game Of 2012 On Saturday

The William Woods University men's basketball team will play its final home game of 2012 as they host Haskell Indian Nations University on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff for the game, presented by Coldwell Banker Niedergerke and Co., is set for 2 p.m.

Matchup
The Owls come into Saturday's contest looking to break their two-game losing streak. William Woods stands at 3-7 overall on the season.

WWU averages 68.1 points per game while giving up 71.2 points per contest. They have two seniors leading the team in scoring. D.J. Hoskins leads the team with his 13.2 points per game pace and Logan Decker is not far behind at 12.8 points per game.

Haskell comes into Anderson Arena trying to snap a three-game losing streak. HINU is 2-7 overall on the year.

William Woods went 0-2 in the Second Annual Arris' Pizza and Pub College Basketball Classic. The Owls, who hosted the event, lost last Friday night in overtime to Lindenwood University-Belleville 70-65.

WWU dropped another tightly contested game on Saturday night to future American Midwest Conference member, Mid-Continent 75-71.

Senior D.J. Hoskins averaged 13.5 points in the two day event earning him All-Classic team honors. Hoskins grabbed the second double-double on the year for the Owls with 17 points and 10 rebounds in Saturday's defeat against Mid-Continent.

Reverse The Trends
Early in the season, William Woods is averaging 68.1 points per game on .413 shooting from the floor. However, the opposition is scoring 71.2 points per game against the Owls and have owned a .441 shooting percentage from the floor on the year.

Will It Work In Peoria?
A couple of Peoria, Ill. natives have made an immediate impact during their first season for William Woods.

Senior D.J. Hoskins leads the team in scoring (13.2 ppg) and three point field goal percentage at .500 (19-of-38). Hoskins is second on the team in field goal percentage at .451 and third in rebounding at 4.1 boards per game.

Junior Demarius Sumrell leads the team in steals with 14, is second on the team in assists with 17 and is tied for fourth in scoring with 8.9 points per game.

Making The Most Of His Time
While averaging only 23.0 minutes per contest, senior guard D.J. Hoskins leads the team in scoring with 13.2 points per game.

Collecting The Boards
The Owls rank 41st in the NAIA in defensive rebounds per game at 25.9 and 43rd in total rebounds with 373, an average of 37.3 caroms per game.

Hitting From Downtown
The Owls are 41st in the nation in three point field goals made with 65 and are 46th in three-point percentage at .349.

Senior D.J. Hoskins ranks 13th in the country in three point field goal percentage, hitting at .500 on the year (19-of-38).

Mixing and Matching
Ten different players have started at least one game for head coach Nick Totta this season. Senior Logan Decker is the only player to have started all 10 games this year.

Haskell is 2-7 overall on the year and is on a three-game losing streak.

The Indians average 72.9 points per contest and give up 78.3. They have three players averaging double figures with sophomore Stand Lovato leading the trio with 12.4 points per game. Senior Raymond Whiteshield averages 11.1 points per contest and senior Trey Osborne chips in 10.9 points per game.

HINU is 0-4 on the road this season and 2-13 during its last 15 games on the road dating back to November of last year.

Haskell is solid from beyond the arc, ranking 30th in NAIA Division II in three point field goal percentage at .368. Trey Osborne leads NAIA Division II in three point field goal percentage at .543 (19-of-35).

Defensive rebounding has been key for HINU this year. The Indians rank 31st in Division II in defensive rebounds per game with 27.33 and sophomore Ron Rousseu ranks 14th in defensive rebounds per game with 6.8 and 33rd in total rebounds per game with 8.3.

Turnovers are the biggest weakness for the Indians. They average 22.3 turnovers per game while only forcing 17.1 turnovers.

Haskell has been an erratic team this year in terms of points scored. They have four games where they have scored over 80 points and four games where they have scored less than 67.

The Indians are shooting at a more accurate pace across than its opposition on the year, but gives up 9.9 more total field-goal attempts per game.
