The William Woods women's soccer team returns home on Saturday to face-off against Ottawa University. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
Last Time Out
The Owls opened up their 2012 American Midwest Conference season in a big way with a 7-0 victory at Benedictine University at Springfield on Tuesday. William Woods was able to jump out early with a
Stephanie Kirvan goal in the 13th minute. Kirvan found the back of the net again in the 34th minute and
Brittainy German scored a pair of goals in the 36th minute and 39th minute to give the Owls a 4-0 lead at half. The scoring for the Owls continued in the second half as
Jamie Palermo recorded a goal in the first 34 seconds of the second half to give WWU the 5-0 lead.
Kaitlyn Wideman (68th minute) and
Amy Faus (81st minute) each put in a goal to give the Owls a 7-0 victory.
Lopsided Victory
The 7-0 win over Benedictine University-Springfield was the biggest margin of victory since an 8-0 win against Harris-Stowe on Oct. 21, 2009.
Hot Streak
Senior
Stephanie Kirvan has been riding a hot streak of late. The senior defender has scored three goals in the last two games, giving her a season total of four.
“The biggest factor in (Kirvan's) hot streak would be the adjustments we've made as a team,” said head coach
Randy Hall. “She is getting more involved and is finding those opportunities where she can have an impact. Stephanie is a very versatile player that can play all three lines in our formation and she does a good job in all of them.”
Conference Rankings
As a team, the Owls rank second in the AMC in goals/game (2.63) and assists/game (2.25). Individually, four Owls rank in the top five across five different categories. Sophomore
Ashley Deckard ranks second in assists/game with .063, freshman
Jordan McNamara ranks third in points/game (1.63) and goals/game (.063), while junior
Jamie Palermo comes in third in points/game with (1.63). Defensively, junior goalkeeper
Kelly Abernathy ranks fourth in saves/game with 6.63.

Coaches Corner
”Ottawa will be a great test for our team. It's a final tune up for us before we hit the bulk of our conference schedule. Ottawa is a program that is always one of the top teams from the Kansas Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. They have a talented group of players that will give us not only a good test, but a good measuring stick with how things will go in conference play.”
