Women's Soccer Takes On Williams Baptist On Saturday For Senior Day

Varner will be one of five seniors to be honored on Saturday.

FULTON, Mo. -- The William Woods University women's soccer team will honor its five seniors on Saturday morning, as the Owls will partake in their annual Senior Day Game as they host American Midwest Conference debutant Williams Baptist College on Saturday morning. Kickoff for the game, presented by Wendy's of Fulton, is scheduled for 11 a.m.

William Woods (5-6-1, 2-1-1 AMC) suffered its first AMC loss of the season on Wednesday night, falling 3-0 at Columbia College. It was the first time the Owls have been shutout in four games, as they were only able to manage four shots on goal for the night.

Williams Baptist (0-12-0, 0-6-0) is in its debut season for women's soccer and are still searching for the school's first-ever victory. The Lady Eagles have been shutout in seven games this season, and have yet to have a multi-goal game this season. WBC has been outscored 61-2 in its six conference games this season.

Game Notes

Honoring The 2013 Seniors
Prior to Saturday's game, the William Woods University women's soccer team will be honoring its five seniors. The 2013 class is made up of Kelly Abernathy, Amy Faus, Ashley McCaffrey, Katie Shikles, and Jessica Varner.

As a class, the four field players have amassed a total of 19 goals, 13 assists, and four game-winning goals. While goalkeeper Kelly Abernathy has provided the Owls with 156 saves and nine shutouts.

Bobblehead Day
Saturday will also be Bobble Head Day at William Woods. The first 100 fans will receive a bobble head doll William Woods mascot Screech.

Kelly Abernathy
The senior goalkeeper will end her career as one of the top goalies in school history, as the St. Charles, Mo., native has amassed 156 career saves, the fourth most saves in school history. Abernathy also has collected the fifth most shutouts in school history with nine.

This season, Abernathy has suffered a slew of injuries that has limited her to only two games this year.  She posted five saves in her pair of games this year.

Amy Faus
The Waterloo, Ill., native has scored 10 goals and handed out two assists during her four-year playing career with William Woods. She scored a career-best five goals during her freshman year. Faus performed her best against Benedictine University at Springfield, as she collected two career goals and handed out two career assists against the Lady Bulldogs.

This season, Faus has been limited to just three games. She registered a season-high two shots on Sept. 18 against Westminster College.

Ashley McCaffrey
McCaffrey is a four-year starter for the Owls, and has appeared in 52 games and has scored six goals and handed out three assists in that time. The Lake St. Louis, Mo., native had the lone multi-goal game of her career on Sept. 4, 2011, as she posted two goals against Benedictine University at Springfield.

During her senior campaign, McCaffrey has played in 10 games and collected a goal against Harris-Stowe State University last Saturday.

Katie Shikles
Shikles has played in 25 career games in her two-year career for William Woods. Primarily a defender during her first season, the Columbia, Mo., native has played more up top for the Owls this season.

This season she has appeared in 12 games and scored the lone goal of her career Sept. 10 against Culver-Stockton College.

Jessica Varner
Varner has had to overcome several injuries during her four-year career at William Woods, but she has been healthy this season for the Owls and has turned in a productive senior campaign. In 42 career games, the Godfrey, Ill., native has scored two goals and handed out eight assists.

The midfielder is having a career-season during her final year for the Owls, as she has scored one goal and handed out a career-best three assists on the year. Varner scored the game-tying goal against Spring Hill College on Aug. 31, and also added an assist in that game to give her a career-best three points in one game.

Knowing Your Opponent – Williams Baptist College
The Lady Eagles come into Saturday's game looking for the school's first-ever victory. The program is in its debut season, and have lost all 16 games this season.

WBC has had a difficult time on the defensive end of the field this season, as they have allowed 89 goals opposed to just scoring five this season. The Lady Eagles have been shut out in seven of their 16 games, and have yet to have a multi-goal game.

In conference games Williams Baptist has been outscored 61-2, with its worse loss coming to Missouri Baptist, as the Lady Spartans took the 16-0 victory.

Presley Owen leads the team in goals with two. She is the lone player to have scored more than one goal this season for the Lady Eagles.
