FULTON, Mo. -- Rachel Meyer's two-goal performance helped the William Woods University women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over American Midwest Conference newcomer Freed-Hardeman University on Tuesday night.
Meyer has now had a two-goal performance in each of her last three games, as she has tied Jordan McNamara for the team lead in goals with 11.
It was another dominating performance for William Woods (8-6-1, 5-1-1 AMC), as they outshot Freed-Hardeman (3-8-1, 2-4-1) 31 to seven. Over the last three games, the Owls have posted 136 shots, while allowing just nine.
WWU got on the board in the 23rd minute as Meyer was able to keep possession after a collision with the goalkeeper to put the ball into an open net.
That would be the lone goal that William Woods collected in the first frame, as they took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Out of the break, Meyer had another chance for a goal in the 47th minute as she hit the post, the ball ricocheted back to her, but the strike was just off the mark again as the ball went out of bounds for a Lady Lions goal kick.
Meyer broke through with her second goal of the game in the 59th minute, as she was able to rebound Jenna Vogt's shot off the post and put it past the diving keeper to give the Owls a 2-0 lead.
Freed-Hardeman struck back just three minutes later with its first goal of the game, as Morgan Wells put the ball in the back of the net, cutting the William Woods lead in half at 2-1. It was the first goal that WWU had allowed in two games.
Ashley Deckard gave WWU its two-goal lead back in the 84th minute with her fourth goal of the year. That would be all the Owls would need as they scored the 3-1 AMC victory.
William Woods has now won three consecutive conference games and five of its last seven as they push its record to 5-1-1 in league play.
The Owls will be back in action on Saturday as they host Lyon College. Kickoff for this AMC contest is set for 3 p.m.
