PARKVILLE, Mo. -- The William Woods University women's soccer team travels down I-70 to take on the defending American Midwest Conference champions, Park University, for a Wednesday night contest. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
William Woods (8-7-1, 5-2-1 AMC) suffered a 1-0 loss to Lyon College its last time out to snap a three-game winning streak. The Owls are currently in fourth place in the AMC with two games left. It will be an important two-game stretch for WWU as they will play two of the three teams in front of them in the conference standings.
The Owls have a pair of 11-goal scorers in junior Rachel Meyer and sophomore Jordan McNamara. Meyer has been on quite the roll of late, as the forward has scored six goals over the last four games, while McNamara has collected three scores over the same span.
McNamara also holds the team lead in assists with nine. The Blue Springs, Mo., native has handed out four assists in the team's last four affairs.
Over its last four games the WWU defense has been extremely stingy, as they have allowed just two goals and collected a pair of shutouts. The Owls have limited opposing offense to 19 shots over the four-game stretch.
Park University (7-6-0, 7-1-0 AMC) had its six-game winning streak come to a halt last Thursday, falling to conference leader Columbia College 7-1 on the road. The Pirates are a half game out of first place in the league, yet are clinging to a half game lead over Missouri Baptist University for second place.
After starting the year with just one win in its first six games, Park University has been able to turnaround its fortune by winning six of its last seven games. In fact, all seven wins for the Pirates this year have come inside the AMC.
Park features two of the top scorers in the league in Shnell Briscoe and Bridget Steiner. Briscoe's 18 goals is tops in the conference, while Steiner is two goals off her pace with 16.
Briscoe has posted a pair of five-goal games this season, reaching the feat against Stephens College and Williams Baptist. In fact, the forward posted an impressive 14-point game against the Stars, as she handed out four assists to go with her five goals. She comes into the match on an eight-game scoring streak.
Park University holds a 25-5 advantage over William Woods in the all-time series. The Pirates swept the two-game season series last year and ended the Owls season last year with a 5-0 victory in the AMC Semifinals.
