ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The William Woods University women's soccer team looks to lock up home field in the first round of the American Midwest Conference Tournament, as they travel to Missouri Baptist University for its regular season finale on Saturday night. Kickoff for the game is set for 6 p.m.
Currently, William Woods (9-7-1, 6-2-1 AMC) stands in fourth place as they hold a one point lead over Hannibal-LaGrange University. The Owls could secure at least a third place finish with a victory over Missouri Baptist University (8-6-3, 6-1-2 AMC) on Saturday. WWU can secure fourth place and home field in the AMC Tournament before the match starts if Hannibal-LaGrange drops its 12 p.m. game at Columbia College.
Jordan McNamara leads the team in goals with 12. The sophomore's goal in the 23rd minute sparked the Owls to a key 2-0 road win over defending AMC champion Park University on Wednesday night. Â McNamara also leads the team in assists with nine and has collected the fourth most points in the conference with 33.
The Owls also feature another double-digit scorer in Rachel Meyer. The junior college transfer has had a spectacular first season for William Woods by collecting 11 goals and handing out four assists.
William Woods has collected three shutouts in its last five games and have allowed just two goals during that stretch. Goalkeeper Kelly Abernathy has posted two shutouts on the year to give her 11 for her career. Abernathy needs one more clean sheet to move into a third-place tie with Alicia Hutchison for most shutouts in a career.
Missouri Baptist holds a slim one point lead over the Owls for third place in the AMC. Most recently, the Spartans collected an 8-0 victory over Stephens College to push its record in league play to 6-1-2. MBU's only conference loss this year came at Park University on Sept. 28.
Argell London leads the team in goals with seven. The midfielder has scored a goal in two of her last three games, and has a hat trick to her credit this season against Williams Baptist College.
Julie Webb leads the team in assists with four, while four other players are tied for second on the team with three.
The Spartans have been one of the tougher teams to score on in conference play, as they have allowed just four goals in nine AMC contest and have collected five shutouts.
William Woods collected a 5-1 win over Missouri Baptist last season, but MBU leads the all-time series 18-17-3.
