COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The William Woods University women's soccer team looks to stay unbeaten in American Midwest Conference play, as they take to the road to challenge co-conference leader Columbia College on Tuesday afternoon. Kickoff for this pivotal AMC contest is set for 4:30 p.m.
William Woods (5-5-1, 2-0-1 AMC) is coming off an 8-0 victory over Harris-Stowe State University on Saturday afternoon. The Owls were sparked by a three-goal performance in the game's first 10 minutes, as seven Owls tallied a goal in the AMC win.
Sophomore Jordan McNamara continued her latest hot-streak, as she collected two goals in the win, pushing her season total to a team-high eight goals. The forward has collected seven goals in the team's last six games.
Saturday marked the second shutout victory for WWU this season. The first one since holding Central Baptist College scoreless in Sept. 6's 2-0 win. Both shutouts were credited to freshman goalkeeper Brittany Griffin, who continues to impress in between the post during her rookie campaign.
The Owls have yet to suffer a loss inside AMC this season, though they did play Hannibal-LaGrange to a 2-2 tie last Wednesday. In conference play, William Woods has outscored teams 14-3, defeating Benedictine University at Springfield and Harris-Stowe along the way.
Columbia College (8-2-1, 5-1-0 AMC) comes into Tuesday's affair tied for first place in the AMC with Park University. The Cougars are on a season-best three-game winning streak, and defeated AMC newcomer Freed-Hardeman 8-0 its last time out.
Through six AMC contest, Columbia has outscored its opponents 50-3. During its current three-game winning streak, they have scored 34 goals, while allowing just one.
The Cougars have a pair of double-digit scorers in MacKenzie Knepper and Stephanie Hale.
Knepper leads the AMC with 12 goals. She has collected four multi-goal games this season, including a pair of hat tricks against Central Methodist University and Freed-Hardeman. The midfielder has collected five goals in her last two games.
Hale is just one goal off Knepper's team-leading pace with 11 goals. She has done most her damage inside the conference, scoring a conference-best eight goals in six AMC contest this year. Hale has really be on a tear of late, as she has scored eight goals in her last five games, which includes a trio of multi-goal games against Harris-Stowe, Stephens College, and Williams Baptist.
Columbia College has won the only previous meeting between these two programs, as they beat the Owls 2-1 in its debut season on Oct. 9, 2012.
