WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. -- The William Woods University men's basketball team looks to get back to the .500 mark as they wrap-up its two-game Arkansas road trip at Williams Baptist College on Tuesday night. Tip-off for this American Midwest Conference showdown will be approximately at 7:30 p.m.
After achieving the best AMC start in school history (5-0), William Woods (12-13, 8-4 AMC) suffered a late January collapse as they lost all four remaining games in the month. Since calendar turned to February the Owls have not dropped a contest, winning three straight to take sole possession of third place in the conference standings.
On Saturday, WWU completed a season sweep of Lyon College by defeating the Scots 76-63.
Daniel Armah collected 16 points and 13 rebounds in the victory giving him his eighth double-double of the year. The 6-6 Ghana native averaged 16.0 ppg and 10.5 rpg on the week, earning him his second AMC Player of the Week honor this season.
Armah leads the Owls in scoring (14.3 ppg) and rebounding (11.0), though he hasn't logged enough games to qualify for national rankings, Armah would rank second in the NAIA in rebounds per game if he qualified.
William Woods averages 70.2 ppg on 43.0 percent shooting from the floor. Defensively, the Owls are holding teams to 67.4 ppg on 42.8 percent shooting.
Two Owl players will be looking to make the 2012-13 season more historic, as
Jonathon Nutt is just three rebounds away from break
Adam Otto's school record of 361 rebounds. Dontre Jenkins is four assists shy of breaking Dan Anderson's all-time assists record of 198. This season William Woods has seen its first 1,500-point scorer (
Logan Decker), has collected the most conference wins in school history and tied the school record for most points in a game.
Williams Baptist (15-9, 6-5 AMC) suffered an 85-73 setback at Park University on Saturday afternoon. Kyle Harvey's 29-point performance wasn't enough as Park shot 49.3 percent for the game, including 40.7 percent (11-of-27) from behind the arc.
Harvey's 19.3 ppg is the highest average in the AMC. The 6-5 forward shoots 46.7 percent from the floor and has tallied double-digits in all but two games this season. He was limited to only 10 points against William Woods on Jan. 15.
The Eagles average 75.2 ppg on 40.5 percent shooting. They give up almost as many points as they score as they are allowing teams to put up 73.0 ppg as they shoot 41.4 percent from the floor.
William Woods scored a 103-55 victory over Williams Baptist on Jan. 15. The 103-point performance tied a school record for most points in a game.
Logan Decker scored 16 points in the victory as he was one of four Owls to score in double-figures in the contest.
