Owls Return Home To Face Hannibal-LaGrange on Thursday

Armah is second in the AMC in double-doubles with seven.
FULTON, Mo. -- The William Woods University men's basketball team looks for a season sweep of Hannibal-LaGrange in a Thursday night American Midwest Conference matchup. Tip-off for the game, presented by Joe Machens Dealership, is scheduled for approximately 7:30 p.m.

The Matchup
The Owls snapped a five-game losing streak on Saturday night as they defeated Harris-Stowe 82-67. The win gave William Woods its sixth conference win on the year, breaking the school's record for most conference wins in a season. WWU is in a third place tie with Williams Baptist College, both programs stand at 6-4 in conference play. Overall on the year, the Owls are still looking to get back to the .500 mark as they are 10-13.

The Trojans also broke an extended losing streak on Saturday as they snapped a nine-game winless streak with their 55-51 win over Benedictine University at Springfield. Hannibal-LaGrange is in last place in the AMC at 1-8. On the season they have managed four wins to 17 losses.

On Jan. 10 William Woods traveled to Hannibal-LaGrange and defeated the Trojans 74-66. Daniel Armah collected a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds in the win.

Last Time Out
William Woods broke the school's record for most conference wins in a season by collected its sixth AMC win by defeating Harris-Stowe 82-67. The win also snapped the Owls five-game losing streak.

WWU outscored the Hornets 53-2 in bench points, as Jonathon Nutt scored a team-high 17 points off the bench in the win. Daniel Armah collected his seventh double-double on the year with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Adding To His Total
Logan Decker, who is already the school's all-time leading scorer in points, adding 16 points to his total in Saturday's win over Harris-Stowe giving him a total of 1,541 points.

A Black Star Export
Hailing from the African country of Ghana, Daniel Armah has been a lifelong fan of the Ghana national soccer team, referred to as 'The Black Stars'. Not only is Armah a fan but he is a talented soccer player as well.

The 6-6 forward has been a force for the Owls since returning at the end of the first semester. Since his return he has averaged 14.0 points and 11.1 rebounds per game and has collected seven double-doubles on the year. The seven double-doubles tie him with Columbia College's Jordan Dressler for the third most in the AMC.
 
Will It Work In Peoria?
D.J. Hoskins has made an immediate impact for the Owls this year. The Peoria, Ill., native averages 12.2 points per game on the year, good for second-best on the team.
 
Hitting From Downtown
The Owls have been an exceptionally good shooting team from three-point land this year. As a team, William Woods is hitting .353 from behind the arc. The mark is the 37th-best percentage in the nation. They are making 6.9 three-pointers per game ranks them 38th in the NAIA.

D.J. Hoskins' .417 success rate ranks him 30th in nation in three point field goal percentage. The 6-3 guard has hit 9-of-20 over the last three games for .450. He hit a career-high 6-of-10 from behind the arc in the Owl's 78-70 overtime loss to Park University on Jan. 17.

WWU hit a season-high 12 three point field goals on Dec. 7 in their 81-64 win over Haskell Indian Nations University. Seth Thomas led the way for the Owls with his 5-of-6 performance behind the arc en route to a career-high 21 points, and is connecting at a .368 pace in his 20 games on the year.

Chairman of the Board
Since his return to the Owls on Dec. 29 Daniel Armah has been collecting caroms at an absurd pace. The 6-6 forward leads the team with 11.0 boards per game average and is riding a three-game double-digit rebounding streak.

In eight conference games Armah has grabbed 89 rebounds for an 11.12 rebounds per game average, the highest total in conference play. His 17 rebounds on Dec. 29 against Culver-Stockton is the second-highest total of any player in the AMC this season.

Glass Eaters
William Woods has the 29th-highest total in rebounds per game at 38.17. That average is helped in large part to the 33.6 defensive rebounds the Owls grab per game, a mark that ranks 21st in the nation.

Keeping the opponents off the glass has been a focal point this year for WWU and it has reflected in the national statistics. William Woods ranks 19th in the NAIA in rebounding margin, grabbing 4.57 more caroms per game than its opposition.

The Owls have three of the top four individual performances in rebounds this season. Daniel Armah's 17 rebounds against Culver-Stockton ranks as the second-highest total in the conference and his 16 caroms performance against Lyon College is the third-highest total. Blake Burgess' 15 rebounds against St. Ambrose is tied for the fourth-highest mark in the league.
 
Mix and Match
The Owls have done a bit of juggling in the starting lineup throughout the early part of the season, with 11 different players starting at least one game for WWU. Logan Decker has been the only constant, starting 22 of 23 games on the year for head coach Nick Totta.

A Look At Hannibal-LaGrange
The Trojans are in last place in the AMC with a 1-8 record and stand at 4-16 overall on the year.

 Arii Meuel leads the Trojans with 17.75 points per game, though he has not appeared in a game since Dec. 10.

Dean Mario is the second leading scorer on the team with his 15.3 points per game. The 6-4 junior has appeared in only eight games this season and is riding a three-game double-digit scoring streak.

Hannibal-LaGrange puts up 62.4 points per game on .417 shooting from the floor. Defensively HLGU gives up 69.9 points per game while allowing the opposition to shoot .466 from the floor.

Rebounding has been an issue for Hannibal-LaGrange this season. The Trojans are being outrebounded by six caroms per game (29.3-35.3). Dean is the only player averaging over six boards per game with his 7.6 rebounds per game average. He has collected three double-doubles on the year.

Hannibal-LaGrange averages 14.1 turnovers per game to only 11.9 assists. Jomal Green's  37 assists leads the team.
Jurgen Lico scored a career-high 21 points against the Owls in the 74-66 loss on Jan. 10.
