Owls Extend Conference Wins Record To Seven With a 68-52 Win Over Hannibal-LaGrange

FULTON, Mo. -- Daniel Armah tallied 16 points and eight rebounds to help the William Woods University men's basketball team earn a 68-52 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange.

The 6-6 forward from Ghana helped William Woods (11-13, 7-4 AMC) to a 28-10 advantage in the paint. The Owls also outscored Hannibal-LaGrange (4-18, 1-9 AMC) 13-8 in second chance points.

William Woods shot a blistering .488 percent from the floor including a .412 from behind the arc on 7-of-17 shooting, while holding the Trojans to a .327 shooting percentage for the game.

William Woods jumped out to a 10-3 advantage, but the Trojans cut the deficit to just one possession at 10-7 after a pair of Preston Steinhoff free throws. Daniel Armah brought the Owls lead back to seven with a pair of layups.

After trading baskets for much of the first half, William Woods found some separation with an 11-2 run to push its lead to 12 with 6:30 remaining in the half.

The Owls extended their lead to 16 in the closing minute of the half, but Steinhoff drilled a trifecta in the final seconds to cut the WWU lead to 36-23 going into the locker room.

William Woods pushed its lead to 39-23 in the early stages of the second half to force Hannibal-LaGrange to take a timeout at the 18:45 mark. Out of the timeout the Trojans responded with an 8-1 run to cut the Owls lead to single-digits at 40-31.

WWU brought their lead back to 47-34 at the 12:12 mark with a Logan Nutt three-point basket, but the Trojans were able to cut the deficit to six points after a 7-0 run.  Blake Burgess stopped the bleeding with a three-point play at the 9:30 mark to give the Owls a 50-41 advantage.

A Logan Decker layup gave the Owls their 13-point lead back at the 7:07 mark. Hoskins extended the lead to 61-46, forcing Hannibal-LaGrange to take a timeout with 4:52 left in the game.

William Woods was able to push its lead to 18 in the closing minutes of the second half and would score the 68-52 win.

Armah was one of three Owls in double-figures as Nutt tallied 14 points and Decker scored 11 in the victory.

The Owls will start a two-game road trip to Arkansas on Saturday afternoon as they face Lyon College. Tip-off for the game will be approximately 4:30 p.m.
