Owls Extend Winning Streak Too Seven; Brush Earns 18th Career Victory

Ties the school record in career wins with 18, after throwing a complete game shutout in game one.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FULTON, Mo.- The William Woods baseball team extended their winning streak to a season high seven games, defeating Williams Baptist in game one 10-0 and in game two 15-8.

In the first four innings between the two teams, the game was scoreless, as both Adam Brush and Paul Keen were on point on the mound, shutting down both offenses. Things changed in the top of the fifth for the Owls.
Jordan Thompson reached base on an error to lead off the inning, and he moved to second base after Greg Hamrock was walked. After getting Stephen Kohler to fly out to right, Zach Nichols continued his hot hitting, singling to left, scoring Thompson and giving the Owls the 1-0 advantage.

Matt Thomas was up next and hit also hit a single, scoring Hamrock, pushing the lead to 2-0. Then, Jacob Harrison hit his first home run on the season, over the left field fence, extending the Owls lead to 5-0. Derek Fletcher reached base on an error by the Eagles outfield, giving the team its fifth runner on base in the inning.

Fletcher was able to advance to third on Eilert Meyers single to right field. Third baseman Austin Clapp flied out to left field, but that scored Fletcher, now giving the team a 6-0 lead. Thompson came to the plate again for the second time in the inning and he walked, putting Meyers on second base.

Hamrock singled this time around, scoring Meyers, adding to the score of 7-0 for the Owls. Kohler followed up Hamrock's single, with a base-hit of his own, scoring Thompson making it 8-0, however, on the play, Hamrock was out at home, but the damage was done, as the team scored eight runs on six hits, taking a commanding lead for Brush.

The Owls would add another run in the sixth to take a 9-0 lead, then in the top of the seventh, Damon Adrian also hit his first home run on the season, slugging a 2-2 pitch over the left field wall, putting the Owls up 10-0.
Brush and the Owls were able to hold on for the shut-out victory, extending their winning streak to six games. The offense totaled 10 hits in game one, led by Harrison going 2-for-3 with one run scored and four RBI. Hamrock, Kohler, Nichols, Thomas, Adrian, and Clapp each added the other RBI.

With his victory, Brush is now tied for the most wins in his career with the Owls (18), tying Zack Lamb who has held that prestigious mark since his time ended with the Owls in 2002.

In game two, it was the Eagles this time jumping on the board in the first inning, gaining a 1-0 victory on starter Jeremy Ahillen. It didn't take long for the Owls to tie the game, as Nichols grounded out to short, scoring Clapp who led the inning off with a single, to tie the game 1-1.

The team extended their lead to 6-1 in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs on five hits, getting RBI Ryan Sweet (1), Robertt Butvin (1), Kohler (1), Nichols (1) and Clapp who had the longest run of the inning, hitting his first home run over the left field fence on a 2-0 count.

The Owls offense added two more runs in the top of the sixth, thanks to Nichols and Thomas getting an RBI double and single, extending the lead out to 8-1. Then, in the top of the seventh, the Owls put the game out of reach, scoring five more runs on four hits, capped off by Justin Elmore solo home run over the right field fence his first of the season, extending the lead out to 12-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Williams Baptist finally got their offense going on starter Ahillen, as they scored five runs on six hits, with Jim Manney standing out, slugging a two run homer over the left field wall.

The Eagles cut into the WWU lead more in the bottom of the eighth, scoring twice to make it 13-8, however, Harrison slugged his second home run in as many games, this time a two run homer, putting the game out of reach, as the Owls went on for the seven run victory.

The team totaled 19 hits on the afternoon, with Nichols stealing the show going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and six RBI. Harrison had a strong day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI. Kohler, Sweet and Clapp each added at least two hits at the plate.

Ahillen picks up his fourth win on the season, throwing 6 1/3 innings pitched, allowing six runs on 11 hits while striking out three.

The Owls (19-14, 13-7 AMC), will look to continue their winning ways and get the series sweep against Williams Baptist. First-pitch tomorrow is set to be thrown at 12:00 p.m.
