Owls and Trojan Offenses Square Off on Monday

Harrison led the Owls on offense against Park, batting 0.625 with three RBI.
FULTON, Mo.- The William Woods baseball team will be looking to continue their offensive roll, as the Owls will travel to Hannibal-LaGrange on Monday. This is the fifth time this season, the two teams' attempt a make-up game.

Against Park University, the Owls (13-14, 9-7 AMC),  scored 46 runs in the four game series, winning three of those games. The finale was one to remember for the Owls, as they scored 26 runs on 23 hits, going on for the 26-16 victory.

The Owls box score line read, eight runs in the first, four in the second, three in the third, six in the fourth, one in the fifth, one in the sixth, and three more in the eighth. Zach Nichols (3-for-5) won the game with a walk-off three run homer in the eighth, which allowed the Owls to 10 run rule the Pirates.

Eight of the nine starters for the Owls had at least one hit, with Stephen Kohler having a filled up stat sheet, going 5-for-7 with three runs scored, three RBI and was a home run short of the cycle. The 1-2-3 hitters of Greg Hamrock, Kohler and Nichols combined to go 12-for-18 with seven runs scored and 12 RBI.

Jacob Harrison had a busy day on the bases going 4-for-5 with four runs scored, tying for a game high in runs scored with Fletcher who also crossed the plate four times. The 7-8-9 hitters of Eilert Meyers, Austin Clapp and Kyle Switzer did damage at the bottom of the order, going 5-for-15 with four runs scored and 7 RBI.

In the four game series, the Owls batted an astounding 0.428, with six players batting over 0.400. Harrison held the top average through four games played, hitting a solid 0.625 (10-for-16) with three RBI, a 0.625 slugging percentage and an on base percentage of 0.647. Kohler (0.579), Hamrock (0.526), Jordan Thompson (0.500), Clapp (0.455) and Matt Thomas (0.429) were the other Owls having a great offensive series.

On the season the Owls are batting 0.313, with Kohler leading the way with a 0.447 average (34-for-76). Hamrock continues to stay above the 0.400 batting line, as the senior is batting 0.439, leading the team in hits (36), doubles (8), total bases (44), and on base percentage (0.489). Harrison (0.353), Nichols (0.348), Justin Elmore (0.310) and Thomas (0.300) are the other hitters batting over 0.300 on the season.

On the mound, the Owls hold a 4.76 ERA, with three starters having an earned run average under 3.50. Dane Smith, who has not pitched lately due to an injury, holds the top ERA for the starters at 2.72. Adam Brush has a respectable 2.89 ERA and Jeremy Ahillen earned a 3.29 average. Brush leads the team in wins with four through eight games started (four complete games). Ahillen is second on the team in wins with three. Thomas (2.72), is 1-1 on the season in relief for the Owls and has earned four saves in 13 innings pitched.

Meanwhile, Hannibal-LaGrange (14-17, 7-11 AMC), are coming off a 1-3 record against Benedictine-Springfield, with their lone victory coming in high scoring fashion like the Owls, as the Trojans scored 23 runs on 20 hits and were able to defeat the Bulldogs 23-7.

Travis Mundahl led the Trojans on offense going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and six RBI. Four other Trojan players chipped in three RBI on the afternoon. Starter Derek Allen got the victory going four innings, allowing seven runs on six hits and struck out three. Charles Rapp pitched well in three innings of relief, allowing just three hits, no runs and striking out one.

Ian Sikes leads the Trojans offense through 31 games played, batting 0.420 (42-for-100), with 20 doubles, 16 runs scored, 22 RBI and 65 total bases. Andrew Pollard is also swinging the bat well, batting 0.402 with 37 hits and 23 RBI. Hannibal-LaGrange is batting 0.324 on the season as a team, with three other players batting over 0.310.

On the hill, Luke Davis leads all starters with a 3.78 ERA, earning a 3-2 record through six games started. The Trojans have a 5.84 ERA as a team, Jose Rivas has also pitched strong for the team, as Rivas is 2-0 with three games started and has a perfect ERA (0.00) through 17 innings pitched. Reliever Blake Zurliene has a 3.86 ERA and leads the team in saves with five.

This will be a double-header with American Midwest Conference standings on the line, first pitch tomorrow will be thrown at 12:00 p.m.
