Owls Can't Stop Lady Braves Rallies As They Fall To Ottawa University 3-1.

Box Score BELLEVUE, NEB. -- The William Woods University volleyball team is still looking for its first win at the Bellevue University Labor Day Classic, after dropping a 3-1 (19-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-20) match to Ottawa University on Saturday morning.

William Woods (0-4) feel victim to several extended runs by Ottawa University (2-1) in the match. Three of the rallies by the Lady Braves proved to be too much to overcome for the Owls, as they dropped the match 3-1.

In the first set, the Owls allowed a 10-2 run to the Lady Braves to break open the game at 15-7. A quick 4-1 run by William Woods pulled them with in four at 17-13, but they could not pull the margin any closer as Ottawa scored the 25-19 victory in set one.

Trailing 14-13 in the second set, William Woods fell victim to another extended Lady Braves run, as Ottawa pushed its lead to 21-14 to close out a 7-1 run. The two squads traded points from there on, and it was Ottawa taken set two with another 25-19 victory.

William Woods showed a lot of resilience in the third set as they were faced with an 11-2 deficit to open the set. The Owls scored 12 of the games next 15 points to pull even with Ottawa at 14-14. The team's kept trading points, until a Kristen Bauer kill gave WWU its first lead of the set at 20-19. An Ottawa attack error gave the Owls a two-point lead at 23-21, and a pair of Sara Stevenson aces completed the come-from-behind set three victory.

Tied at 13-13 in the fourth set, it was another extended run for Ottawa that saw them move past the Owls, this time an 8-0 run broke the set open, giving the Lady Braves a 21-13 edge. William Woods battled back to pull the set within three at 23-20, but it was too much, too late, as Ottawa took the set 25-20, winning the match 3-1.

Kristen Bauer had a season-best 17-kill performance on the day to go along with 12 digs, to give the junior her first double-double on the season. Both the 17 kills and 12 digs led the team in each category.

Bauer was the lone bright spot on the day for the Owls, as they hit a season-low .097 in the morning match.

Freshman setter Sara Stevenson recorded a 35-assists game on the day to go along with seven digs and four kills. Ottawa University collected 48 digs, to William Woods 47.

The Owls will conclude their play in the Labor Day Classic later today as they take on John Brown University. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
