McNamara's Hat Trick Leads The Owls Over Westminster College 4-2

McNamara collected her first hat trick on Wednesday.
Box Score FULTON, Mo. -- A late two-goal rally sparked the William Woods University women's soccer team to a 4-2 come-from-behind victory over cross town rival Westminster College.

Tied at 2-2 in the 84th minute, Jordan McNamara sent a ball that was deflected off the post back into the 18-yard box to set up Rachel Meyer the game-winning goal. McNamara collected a hat trick of her own, helping William Woods (3-3) defeat Westminster College (2-4-1) 4-2 on Wednesday night.

"Tonight was the first full game in a new system for our girls," said head coach Randy Hall. "The girls are really adhering to it well. They have been working hard in practice to figure out the new concept and it showed tonight."

The Owls dominated most of the first frame by collecting nine shots as the defense allowed just two Westminster shots in the half.

Jamie Palermo, who was playing in her first game in the field since the season-opening game, sent a ball down field to a streaking Jordan McNamara. The sophomore got past the Lady Blue Jay defense and drilled the back of the net to give William Woods the 1-0 lead in the 34th minute.

Westminster evened the game in the opening minute of the second half, as Ashley Schimmel scored the equalizer.

Eileen Koppy gave the Lady Blue Jays a 2-1 lead in the 63rd minute, as her 22-yard strike got past the Owl's goalkeeper.

McNamara would score the equalizer five minutes later. MacKenzie Cork sent the ball into the 18-yard box to a running McNamara, who struck the ball past the Lady Blue Jay keeper, tying the game at 2-2.

With six minutes left in the game, the Owls had two shots deflect off the post preventing WWU from taking the lead. However, the second deflection was played outside the box by McNamara and she sent it back in to find Meyer for the game-winning goal.

William Woods wasn't done there, as McNamara collected her third goal of the game in the 87th minute to secure the 4-2 win.

It was the first career hat trick for the sophomore, and she also set a new career-high in total points for a game with seven.
"Whenever you can get four-goal production from a player you will take it," said Hall. "The impressive thing is she done it in a matter of 50-plus minutes tonight. "

William Woods returns to action on Saturday as they take on Missouri Valley College. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. at Firley Field.
