Box Score Fayette, Mo. -- The William Woods University women's soccer team could not overcome a pair of early goals, as they fall to Central Methodist University 3-2 on Tuesday night.
Despite
Jordan McNamara scoring her fourth game in three games, William Woods (3-5) could not overcome a pair of Central Methodist (6-3) goals in the game's opening nine minutes.
The Lady Eagles set the tone early in the game, as Lindie Adair sent a rocket shot from the right corner of the 18-yard box past the Owls goalkeeper, giving CMU the early 1-0 advantage just a 1:48 into the game.
Central Methodist struck again in the ninth minute, this time with a Nicki Noreen goal. Noreen took the pass from Kelsey Vanzant into the box and scored from seven yards out, giving the Lady Eagles a 2-0 lead.
McNamara got the Owls on the board in the 20th minute, as she was able to collect a ball that had ricocheted off the CMU goalkeeper and put the ball in the open net to cut the WWU deficit in half at 2-1.
It was the fourth goal in three games for McNamara, as she collected a hat trick against Westminster College last Wednesday.
CMU got an insurance goal in the 68th minute with a Vanzant goal, giving her three points on the night.
William Woods responded with a goal of its own just seconds later, as
Kaitlyn Wideman collected her first goal on the year in the 69th minute off of a
Jenna Vogt assist.
That's as close as William Woods would get, falling to the Lady Eagles 3-2.
Despite the two goals, it was a tough night for the Owls offensively as they registered just five shots, while Central Methodist collected an impressive 20 shots.
William Woods will be back in action on Saturday as they play its first American Midwest Conference game of the year, taking on Benedictine University at Springfield at Firley Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
