Women's Soccer Plays Host To Stephens College On Sunday Afternoon

Griffin has made 52 saves on the year, while earning a goals against average of 1.97.
FULTON, Mo.—After seeing its game against Lindenwood University-Belleville postponed on Saturday, the William Woods University women's soccer team will return to the field at home on Sunday afternoon, as the Owls host Stephens College. Kick-off is set to start at 4 p.m.

The Owls (3-5-2; 2-1-2 AMC), are coming off a tough 1-0 loss against Columbia College on October 8th. Columbia scored the game winner in the 20th minute, as Mallory Page laced the ball over the WWU defense, which found the foot of Kelly Ross, who beat Owls goaltender Brittany Griffin on the near post, to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

The Owls came out more aggressively in the second half, as the team recorded three quick shots within the first 10 minutes of play, but despite the effort from WWU, the Cougars were able to hold on for the one goal victory.

William Woods was led in the shot department by Jordan McNamara, who recorded three shots, while senior Jamie Palermo contributed two.

On the season, the Owls have scored 22 goals, with McNamara leading the way, having six, which is ninth best in the American Midwest Conference (AMC). The Blue Springs, Missouri, native, has also totaled three assists, for a team-high 15 points and also leads WWU in shots, earning 34.

Brittainy German is second on the team in goals, finding the back of the net four times, while Sarah Krispin has added three and Rachel Meyer has scored two.

In net, Griffin has played in 821:16 minutes on the year, making 52 saves, while holding a goals against average of 1.97.

The Owls will be looking to pick up its third AMC win on the season, against a Stephens College (3-6; 0-5 AMC) team, that is still searching for its first conference win on the year.

Last season when these two teams' met at Stephens, the Owls dominated the Stars, outshooting them 42-1 and went on for the 9-0 win.

McNamara, Meyer and Katie Shikles each totaled two goals in the outing, while Palermo, German and Graber scored one a piece.

After winning three of its first four games on the year, the Stars have dropped five in a row and have been outscored 38-1 during the process.

On the season, Stephens is led by Rachael Vilord, totaling three goals, one assist for seven points, while also leading the team with 19 shots. Kenzie Andrade has scored twice and added a team-high three assists, while Gerica Curry has totaled one goal.

In net, the Stars have used five different goaltenders, with Amanda Chapman seeing most of the action in goal, starting five games, while allowing nine goals in 333:50 minutes of play and has made 32 saves.
