BELLEVILLE, Ill.—After seeing its four game winning streak snapped at the hands of Central Methodist University on Thursday night, the William Woods University women's soccer team will look to tally its eighth win on the year, as they pay a visit to Lindenwood University-Belleville. Kick-off will start at 1 p.m.
The Owls (7-6-2; 6-1-2 AMC), are coming off a tough 2-1 (2OT) loss against CMU on Thursday. Despite being outshot 11-1 in the first half, the Owls made its lone shot attempt count, as
Rachel Meyer dribbled her way into the box and was able fire the ball past the CMU goaltender, to give WWU a 1-0 lead heading into the half.
William Woods would continue to hold its one goal lead, until the 73
rd minute, as Kelsey Vanzant dribbled down the right side of the field and was able to feed a cross on over to Nicki Noreen, who hit a one-timer past Owls goaltender
Brittany Griffin, which tied it up at 1-1.
The two teams' did their best to score the game winning goal, but to no avail, so it was off to overtime. In the first overtime, Meyer had a chance to win the game for William Woods, but her shot attempt went just wide.
That turned out to be the best scoring opportunity for either team in the first OT, so more extra time was needed. In the second OT, in the 108
th minute, CMU was awarded a free kick and Jamie Krediet's cross into the box, found the head of Bola Adeoba and she was able to flick the ball past Griffin, giving CMU a 2-1 win.
Despite the tough loss, Griffin was outstanding in net, as the Mexico, Missouri, native, posted a career-high 13 saves on the night.
Still, the Owls have won four out of its last five games, and during the last five outings, the team has outscored its opponents 16-3 and hold a shot advantage of 88-51.
Leading the way has been junior
Jordan McNamara, having a team-high six goals for 12 points, while also adding 18 shots, with 14 landing on net. Meyer has scored four goals and contributed one assist for nine points the last 12 days, while
Amy Faus has totaled two goals.
In net, Griffin has played in 378:22 minutes, allowing just three goals and making 20 saves, for a save percentage of .870 and owns a goals against average of .714.
Ashley Parisi, meanwhile, started the winning streak for WWU, as she collected her second shutout on the year in a 6-0 victory over Stephens College, back on October 12
th.
On the season, the team has totaled 38 goals and McNamara has led the way, with a team-high 12, which ranks the Blue Springs, Missouri, native, third overall in the American Midwest Conference (AMC). She also has added three assists, giving her 27 points on the year.
Meyer is second on the team in goals (six) and points (17), but has contributed a team-high five assists, while Krispin and
Brittainy German have totaled four goals on the season.
In goal, Griffin has played in 1199:38 minutes, making 72 saves, for a save percentage of .774 and has a goals against average of 1.58, which puts her at No. 4 overall in the AMC.
A win against Lindenwood University-Belleville (3-9-1; 2-5-1), would give WWU seven conference wins, which would tie the record for most in program history, set back in 1999 and tied again last season.
The Lady Lynx have struggled as of late, dropping four out of its last six games. The teams' last win came against Stephens College, on October 22
nd, where they beat the Stars 4-0.
On the year, the Lady Lynx are led by Cydney Robertson, scoring a team-high seven goals on 37 shots. Jessika Stiehr and Breann Shaffer have each added two goals, while four other players have totaled one.
In net, Kelsey Lahm has started in 11 games, making 64 saves in 1000:00 minutes played, has a save percentage of .719 and earned a goals against average of 2.25.
