FULTON, Mo.—After tying the program record for most American Midwest Conference (AMC) wins (seven) on Saturday afternoon, the William Woods University women's soccer team will look to collect its ninth win on the year against Johnson & Wales on Senior Day. Kick-off will start at 2 p.m., on Sunday.
The Owls (8-6-2; 7-1-2 AMC), are coming off a 2-1 victory against Lindenwood University-Belleville, as
Rachel Meyer led the Owls, scoring two goals, which now give the senior eight on the on the season. In net,
Brittany Griffin allowed just one goal, while collecting eight saves on the day.
Prior to its match against Johnson & Wales (5-10-1), the team will honor its eight seniors,
Ashley Deckard,
Amy Faus,
Brittainy German,
Casey Kesselheim,
Sarah Krispin,
Rachel Meyer,
Jamie Palermo,
Danielle Wilson and manager Hayley Bowler.
Deckard, a Granite City, Illinois, native, has appeared in 51 games for the Owls, totaling six goals and 18 assists for 30 points. Deckard set her career-high in goals (four) in 2013, while in 2012, she posted a career-high 10 assists. She also has been named to the All-AMC first team in consecutive seasons (2012, 2013).
Faus, a Waterloo, Illinois, native, has totaled 12 goals in 74 games in her career with the Owls. Her best season with WWU came during her freshman year in 2010, where she totaled five goals on 16 shots, for 10 points. Faus has been team captain for two seasons, while earning Academic All-AMC honors three times.
German, a St. Peters, Missouri, native, has compiled nine goals and four assists for 22 points in her three seasons with the Owls. In 2012 and this season, German has scored four goals and added two assists.
Kesselheim, a St. Charles, Missouri, native, has seen action in 47 games for William Woods in three seasons, totaling nine shots, with three landing on net. Kesselheim has been named to the Academic All-AMC team for two consecutive seasons.
Krispin, a St. Peters, Missouri, native, has scored a career-high four goals for the Owls this year, while also setting new career-highs in points (10), shots (21) and game winning goals (one). She was also named to the Academic All-AMC team in 2013.
Meyer, a Granite City, Illinois, native, has appeared in 32 games in two seasons with the Owls, after transferring from Southwestern Illinois College. The senior has totaled 17 goals in her career for 44 points, with her best year coming in 2013 thus far, where she accumulated 11 goals on 57 shots. Meyer is also a 2013 Academic and All-AMC first team selectee.
Palermo, a Santa Fe, New Mexico, native, has played in 44 games on the pitch for WWU in career, totaling 25 goals, 10 assists for 60 points and added 110 shots. Palermo had a standout year in 2012, where she totaled a career-best 14 goals. She is a two-time Academic and All-AMC first team honoree, while in 2012, she was named to the Capital One CoSIDA All-District team.
Wilson, a Freeburg, Illinois, native, has played in 69 games in four seasons with WWU, totaling two goals, which came during the 2012 season. Wilson is a two-time Academic All-AMC team and All-AMC honorable mention team selectee.
This will be the first ever meeting between the Wildcats and Owls on Sunday, as JWU is coming off a 3-0 victory against Stephens College on Friday night, which snapped the teams' five game losing streak.
On the season, the Wildcats are led by Amanda Thoe, scoring a team-high seven goals, while adding four assists, for a team-high 18 points. Chay Stark has added three goals and four assists, while Emily Dixon and Daria Magee have totaled two goals each.
In net, Breggie Coffey has appeared in 14 games, making 13 starts, totaling 91 saves, for a save percentage of .778, while owning a goals against average of 2.02.
