Men's Basketball Looks For A Road Victory At Missouri Valley College On Tuesday

Hill is scoring 11.0 points and shooting a team-high 62.5 percent from the field through five games.
MARSHALL, Mo.— The William Woods University men's basketball team will look to snap its two-game skid on Tuesday evening, as the Owls pay a visit to Missouri Valley College. Tip-off will start at 7 p.m.

The Owls (1-4), are coming off a tough home loss against Bellevue University, as the Bruins defeated William Woods, 90-63. The Owls shot 37.7 percent from the field, 40.0 percent from downtown and 69.2 percent from the charity stripe.

Leading the way offensively, was Alec Mulvihill, totaling 15 points in 27:38 minutes of play, going 5-of-10 from the field and 4-of-7 beyond the three-point arc. Ryan Hill also reached the double-digit plateau for the third time this year, as the St. Louis, Missouri, native, netted 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting and added four rebounds.

On the season, the Owls are putting up 66.6 points, while shooting 44.4 percent from the field and hold a rebounding advantage of 193-185, over its opponents.

Individually, Hill is off to a strong start, averaging a team-high 11.0 points per game, while also leading the team in field goal percentage (62.5 percent). Mulvihill, a sophomore guard, is scoring 10.8 points and draining a team-best 39.1 percent of his shots from three, while DJ Johnson, is averaging 10.8 points, shooting 54.8 percent from the field and leads the Owls with 37 boards.

This will be the second meeting on the year between the Owls and Vikings (4-1), as back on November 1st, in William Woods season opener, Missouri Valley came into Anderson Arena and spoiled the teams' first home game, winning 72-61.

The Owls shot 43.4 percent from the field in the game and were led by Mulvihill, scoring 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Nate Bitner totaled 14 points, as the senior went 6-of-12 from the floor, while Johnson added 10 points off the bench.

For MVC, they shot 45.5 percent from the floor and were led by James Lane, scoring a game-high 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting and going 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Andre Scott added 14 points, while Raviel Burton contributed 12.

Since then, MVC has won three out of its last four games, with its lone loss coming against Grace College, as they fell 72-62.

In its last timeout, the Vikings got back on the winning track, as they defeated Friends University, 70-59. Lane again led all scorers on the evening, totaling 23 points on 10-of-12 shooting, while Burton and Brad Hamilton also totaled 12 points each.

On the year, Missouri Valley is scoring 67.6 points, while limiting its opponents to a mere 56.8. Lane and Scott are averaging a team-high 13.6 points per game, with Lane earning a field goal percentage of 63.0, while Scott is hitting 52.4 percent of his shots.

Burton is third on MVC, averaging 11.2 points, while Hamilton is the fourth player averaging double-figures, as the guard is totaling 10.8 points per game.
