Box Score FULTON, Mo. -- Starting pitcher Bubba Bradshaw recorded his third straight quality start on Tuesday afternoon to help the William Woods University baseball team pick up the season sweep of Park University with a 12-4 win in American Midwest Conference action at Owls Field.
Bradshaw provided William Woods (22-7, 10-5 AMC) with six solid innings, as the St. Louis, Mo., native held Park University (9-16, 6-9 AMC) to one earned run on three hits to pick up his third straight win. The win makes Bradshaw 4-0 on the year.
The right-handed starter has allowed just four runs over his last 23.1 innings of work, giving him a 1.55 ERA. Bradshaw also struck out three of the 20 batters he faced to give him a total of 14 strikeouts during his three-game winning streak.
The Owls provided their starter with a lot of support, as they scored 12 runs on 15 hits. Austin Clapp and Dustin Kremer each picked up a three-hit game in the win, as Clapp went 3-for-5 with an RBI and Kremer followed with his 3-for-4 performance with a double and one RBI.
Eilert Meyers slugged his first homerun of the year with a two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth inning. Matt Thomas and Kyle Switzer drove in three runs apiece in the eight-run win. Thomas hit a two-run triple in the first and hit an infield single in the fifth to score Alex St. Pierre. Switzer drove in two in the third with a single to right, and added another RBI single to right two innings later.
Alex Thornton suffered the loss for Park University, as the starter lasted just two innings to push his record back to .500 at 2-2. Leftfielder Jo-Jo Garcia-Fortuna paced the Pirate offense by picking up two of the team's six hits. He was also one of two Park batters to collect an RBI on the day with a single to center in the seventh inning.
Park University was able to get one run off Bradshaw in the top of the first, but William Woods struck back with three runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning thanks to Thomas' two-run triple and Kremer's RBI single.
The Owls added another run in the bottom of the third with a Clapp RBI single to right, making it 4-1 WWU. After Clapp's at-bat the umpires stopped the game due to rain. After the extended rain delay, Switzer would give William Woods two more runs with a two-out RBI single.
Tyler Malcok reached on an error to start the fourth inning, He would move around the bases, and eventually score on a wild pitch to pull the Pirates within four at 6-2.
The Owls exploded for four runs in the bottom of the fifth, and added two more in the bottom of the seventh to give them a 12-2 advantage after six full innings.
Park scored one run in the top of the seventh to prevent a 10-run mercy, and added another in the bottom of the ninth before WWU took the 12-4 victory.
The win gives the Owls the season sweep against Park University this season, as they swept a doubleheader against the Pirates in Parkville, Mo., back on Mar. 18.
William Woods will now take to the road, as they travel to Walnut Ridge, Ark., for a three-game weekend series against AMC foe Williams Baptist. The Eagles are currently the only winless team in conference play this season, as they are currently 0-15 league play. The series will start on Friday afternoon with a nine-inning game starting at 2 p.m., and conclude on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
